101 critical days of summer... here again

Scott AFB, Ill. -- Memorial Day weekend marked the official start of the time known as the '101 Critical Days of Summer.' That means we made it through the other time of the year that I call, the '264 Critical Days of Winter,' and we did it without a major mishap. That accomplishment is a testament to your efforts. However, summer brings more challenges to personal safety than any other time of the year. It is up to all of us to meet that challenge.
Summer is challenging due to the number of outside activities available once the weather gets nice. Many people will be dusting off things that have not been used in awhile including motorcycles, bikes, boats, grills, lawnmowers, etc. -- you get the point. There are potential dangers in engaging in all of these activities. Does this mean we can't do these things? No, it doesn't. But, it does mean we need to take special precautions.
First and foremost, think before you act. That is the first step in personal risk management. If something doesn't look right it probably isn't right, so do something about it. Bring it to someone else's attention; maybe they haven't noticed what you are seeing. Use the "Wingman" concept, more commonly known as the buddy system. Look out for each other and keep your "Wingman" out of trouble. It is up to all of us to stop stupidity and along the way, hopefully prevent most mishaps.
On a different note, I would like take some space to introduce the 126 ARW's new Ground Safety Manager, Tech. Sgt. Brad Hinkle. Tech. Sgt. Hinkle comes to his new job from the 126th Maintenance Group. Most everyone should see him around in the coming months.
In closing I would like to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable summer.
