The 126th Fuels Management flight, 126th Air Refueling Wing, Illinois Air National Guard, Scott Air Force Base, Ill., was recently named "The Best in the Air National Guard" for its field. The flight was selected as the Air National Guard Outstanding Fuels Management Flight Award Winner for the best fuels operations for 2009. The Fuels Management Flight Award, or American Petroleum Institute (API) Trophy Award, is part of the Logistics Readiness Awards Program and recognizes individuals and organizations within the logistics community for its outstanding contributions to the success of the Air Force and Department of Defense missions. The award program applies to Active Duty Air Force, the Air National Guard, and Air Force Reserves. "It is a remarkable accomplishment for the personnel of the 126th Fuels Management Flight to be awarded the API Trophy Award," said Senior Master Sgt. John Pietrusinski, superintendent of the 126th Fuels Management Flight. "Winning this award means that we can take on any type of challenge ranging from Aerospace Expeditionary Force missions to state missions to Environmental Protection Agency compliance requirements or future weapon systems. We have the personnel and equipment to get the job done." The API Trophy Award recognizes the wing with best fuel operation including facility, equipment, and vehicle support from outside the fuels flight on top of fuels flightline operations. Only fuels management offices that support flying missions are considered for the award. To qualify for the award, the unit had to submit a nomination package that detailed their accomplishments for 2009. Highlights of those accomplishments included an 'outstanding' rating for the flight during a 2009 Headquarters Air Mobility Command Inspector General Unit Compliance Inspection coupled with an AMC IG Team Recognition Award; receipt, surveillance, inventory, and issue of more than 4.9 million gallons of jet fuel resulting in 936 sorties launched without delay; and zero delays or lost missions due to fuels support. "This is a great accomplishment for our Fuels Management Flight," said Col. Rick Nyalka, commander of the 126th Mission Support Group. "Senior Master Sgt. Pietrusinski and his personnel continue to produce outstanding results and they are really deserving of this recognition. This is just another example of the outstanding personnel assigned to the 126th Air Refueling Wing and the caliber of people we have to accomplish our mission." Please contact Maj.
